No 8. Term 2 Week 5, 19th May 2021
Principal's News

This week is Family Week! One of my favourite school weeks of the year, and when we consider how much life has changed for most of us in this somewhat chaotic world, the importance of the family is arguably at its highest. No matter how much life changes in the future, families will always continue to be needed in one form or another.
The ultimate goal of families is to create opportunities for all members of the family to feel unconditionally loved and understood. This is especially true for the children who as they grow, search for their place in the world.
There is nothing more valuable then than quality time with family. Children of all ages need time and attention from their parents. The impact of personal interaction cannot be underestimated as it has a significant impact on their emotional and behavioural states.
Consider that if a child has your undivided attention, it signals to them that they are loved and important to you. This can be further nurtured by experiencing joyful activities together, as it demonstrates that you want to spend time with your children over and above all other daily demands.
Here are some suggestions to encourage quality family time:
- Get out in the great outdoors – go hiking, take a picnic, kick a footy or visit the zoo.
- Homework – sit down with children to assist them with their homework in a non-demanding fashion. Be sure not to provide the answers for them … but make yourself available to provide advice and tips that will point them in the right direction.
- Play board games – place an emphasis on sportsmanship and fun.
- Sport – watch or play sports together.
One of my favourite things is to share a meal together as family at the end of each day. It's a great way of opening up discussion. Asking about each family member’s favourite part of their day often leads to deeper conversation and discussions about the things that matter in each other's lives.
Whatever it is that your family enjoys, the important thing is that you do it together, just like our big warm family of St. Kevin's to which we all belong.
Happy family week!
Jason Micallef,
Principal

We are looking forward to some pleasant weather this weekend as we attempt to hold our working bee at long last. Thank you to the families who have registered their intention to help out via the Operoo form. We looking forward to seeing you all from 9am until midday on Saturday morning.
Car Park Safety

We need to extend a heartfelt thankyou and congratulations to our families for your ongoing patience and calm manner as you traverse the carpark before and after school. It can get quite congested at times but your cooperation and willingness to follow the directions of staff ensures that traffic flows and disruptions are minimised.
One thing we would ask parents to keep in mind is that when moving through the carpark on foot, please use the crossing as much as possible rather than walking across the road ways. This is not only safer, but also sets a great example for our children.
Welcome to the family!
Congratulations to Mrs Brobyn and her husband Chris who welcomed little Sophie into the world on Friday. Another beautiful miracle to brighten our days and how special to be celebrating the creation of a new family in Family Week.

School Advisory Committee

The St. Kevin's School Advisory Committee (SAC) is an important body of school community members who form an important expression of the educational partnership that exists between parents, school, parish and the wider community to support all students.
The SAC met for its first General Meeting last week at the school and discussed several items relevant to school life. Importantly, the SAC members made some important decisions about who should become the Chairperson and the Secretary of the SAC and advised the school leadership on how to encourage more leadership in the Parents and Friends Association. The committee also discussed and provided advice on the plans for the playground that is under development for the quadrangle area.
Your School Advisory Committee members:
- Fr. Des Moloney (Parish Priest)
- Jason Micallef (Principal)
- Anette Fassioms (Chairperson / Parent)
- Natasha Figura (Secretary / Parent)
- Belinda Rowlands & Rebecca Gage (Deputy Principals)
- Lisa Longley (Staff Representative)
- Nadine Francois (Parent)
- Ania Young (Parent)
- Sabina De Silva (Parent)
