Principal's News

Thank you to all our families after adjusting circumstances to accomodate our two day school closure last week. I am pleased to say though that the two days were incredibly beneficial and necessary for allowing our teachers and support staff to continue their professional development and remain at the top of their game.
Over the two days, we were fortunate to be able to welcome back to St. Kevin's the internationally renowned Lane Clark who led us in our learning. Lane is recognised all over the world as a leading educational consultant and expert in teaching children how to learn, how to think and how to use new technologies to enhance their learning.
While with us, Lane taught us about the human brain and more specifically, the latest research into human cognitive architecture. We also looked into ways we can empower students at every grade level to become truly independent and self-directed in their learning by supporting them to develop their own criteria for success, self-assess and evaluate, set goals, and monitor progress.
This is truly exciting stuff and we can't wait to begin the process of assimilating our new learning into what we already do very well, to make our teaching and your children's learning even better.
God bless.
Jason Micallef,
Principal

Congratulations & Farewell Mrs Wilson

At the end of Term 1, St. Kevin's will say a heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Mrs Trina Wilson who begins a new life chapter in retirement. Mrs Wilson has taught in the Catholic sector for 40 years and has been a much loved teacher at St. Kevin's for 23 years. Mrs Wilson currently teaches Year 3-6 Physical Education and will be sorely missed by her students and colleagues, both present and past.
In term two, our senior Physical Education and Sport program will be taken on by Mrs Alana Donald. Mrs Donald is very excited about this new role as you would imagine. As Mrs Donald will need to give up her part time classroom role in Year 5/6DR, we are also pleased to announce that Miss Rullo will become the classroom teacher of 5/6DR full time from the start of term 2.

P-2 Junior Visual Art
This term, the focus in Junior Art is very much on experimentation and exploration of new and wonderful art materials and processes. Junior art also provides wonderful opportunities for students to develop their fine motor skills by cutting, tearing, pasting, drawing, shading and painting in various ways.
The students are busy creating various artworks which reflect their own creativity and experiences. Students have also worked on collaborative artwork displays this term, as a symbol of our connection to each other here at St Kevins.
Recently the Preps enjoyed listening to The Very Hungry Caterpillar story by Eric Carle. The process of Metamorphosis was explored and we made connections to our own time of change during Lent. Students then busily created their own butterflies, by cutting their paper plate template, dripping blobs of paint on one side of its wings, pressing down and opening their butterflies up with wonder and awe to see it transform into a beautifully bright butterfly! There were many 'Oh Wow!' moments that day!
Here are some photos from this fun and engaging activity.
